Ipswich Police and Fire Departments responded to a person in distress at Pavilion Beach around 5:17 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, both departments said in a joint release.
Crews pulled the individual from the water, who wished to remain unidentified, before taking them to a local hospital where they later died.
The incident is under investigation.
